In September 2026, an $11 million settlement was reached in a wrongful death case stemming from a fatal tractor collision in Dinuba, California. The crash occurred in October 2025, when Jose Alfredo Ramirez Belman was operating a tractor and was struck by a vehicle driven by Francisco Estrada, an employee of Wes Pac, Inc. Ramirez Belman died at the scene from his injuries. The matter was ultimately resolved for the policy limits following a demand made on behalf of his family.
Fatal Collision Occurs on State Route 201
In October 2025, Belman was operating a John Deere tractor and utility trailer eastbound on State Route 201, east of Road 48, in unincorporated Tulare County near Dinuba. At the same time, Estrada was operating a work vehicle and stated that the glare from the rising sun made it difficult for him to have a clear view of the road. He claimed that he suddenly saw Ramirez Belman’s tractor and trailer bed, swerved to the left, and then hit something in the roadway before he realized that he had crashed into the tractor.
The rear-end accident was witnessed by another driver, who reported that Estrada had moved into oncoming traffic on State Route 201 while trying to overtake Belman. The impact was described as a “massive explosion” which obstructed portions of State Route 201.
Law enforcement also documented the substantial distance that the tractor and trailer bed traveled following the incident. The tractor and trailer, which was loaded with wood, had an estimated combined weight of approximately 14,000 pounds. CHP ultimately concluded that Estrada was driving at an unsafe speed for the prevailing roadway, traffic, and environmental conditions and failed to observe the tractor before striking it from behind.
Key Legal Issues in the Case
The wrongful death matter involved allegations of driver negligence and the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident. Estrada’s version of the events that took place was disputed by witnesses and law enforcement recommended criminal charges for vehicular manslaughter with ordinary negligence.
