Oct 6, 2017

According to the Daily Bulletin, a 23-year-old man was killed after his vehicle slammed into the back of a tractor trailer on the 10 Freeway in Coachella on Thursday, October 5, 2017.

The crash occurred around 5 a.m. on the westbound side of the freeway near Dillon Road.

The 23-year-old man, identified as Frank Mendez of Indio, was traveling westbound in a 2011 Ford F-350 truck when he struck the back of a 2003 Sterling big rig. The big rig was towing a trailer at the time of the crash.

Due to the high impact of the crash, the truck was wedged under the trailer.

Mendez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the big rig, Janette Nunez, 31, of Zapata, Texas, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
