Lori Harvey, stepdaughter of Family Feud host Steve Harvey, may face a one-year prison sentence after being arrested in October for a hit-and-run.
Lori crashed into a parked vehicle on Moreno Drive in Los Angeles and then fled the scene. According to the Beverly Hills Police Department, she was later arrested on two misdemeanors. One count is for resisting, delaying, and preventing a peace officer from doing their job. The other count is for a hit-and-run that caused property damage.
Lori hired Blair Berk as her attorney to help her with the case. On January 21st, Berk attended a Los Angeles courtroom and pleaded not guilty on behalf of Lori. According to a Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office spokesperson, she will be back in court on February 28th for a pretrial hearing.
California Hit-And-Run Laws
If you hit another vehicle or pedestrian you MUST call the police. You need to communicate with the parties involved in the collision. Each of you should share contact information with each other, such as your names and phone numbers. According to Vehicle Code 16025, you are also required to exchange insurance information.
Furthermore, under Vehicle Code 20002 (a), if you were at-fault for an accident, you must, “Leave in a conspicuous place on the vehicle or other property damaged a written notice giving the name and address of the driver and of the owner of the vehicle involved and a statement of the circumstances thereof and shall without unnecessary delay, notify the police department of the city wherein the collision occurred or, if the collision occurred in unincorporated territory, the local headquarters of the Department of the California Highway Patrol.” If you do not perform this action, then you will be guilty of a misdemeanor.
If your hit-and-run accident resulted in property damage, then it will be classified as a misdemeanor crime. You could be subjected to a prison sentence of six months, probation, and a $1,000 fine.
