According to CBS, an employee of the Los Angeles Police Department was arrested for his involvement in a fatal crash that killed 3 people on the 605 Freeway in Whittier on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
The southbound 605 Freeway was closed for more than five hours following the three-car pileup that occurred near Washington Boulevard.
According to authorities, 26-year-old Edgar Verduzco of Santa Ana was traveling at a high rate of speed in a 2016 Chevy Camaro when he struck a 2014 Nissan and a 2010 Scion.
The Nissan burst into flames due to the impact of the crash, trapping all three occupants inside. All three people—two males and a female—were pronounced dead at the scene.
The names of the victims have not been released.
The driver of the Scion, identified as a 31-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries.
The suspect, Verduzco, sustained a broken nose. Verduzco was arrested on suspicion of DUI and is being held on $100,000 bail.
It is unclear what Verduzco’s position is at the Los Angeles Police Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
