At approximately 9:00 a.m. on Monday morning, a motorcycle rider died after a crash in central Fresno, California. The actual crash occurred at the intersection of Blackstone and Saginaw, and it’s believed that this is because the driver of a black SUV initiated a chase against the rider.
According to ABC 30, police were initially called to Shields and Fresno at 9:00 a.m, reporting a car chasing a motorcycle and potential road rage.
An article by KMPH says that this call was quickly followed by another, reporting a motorcycle and SUV crash at Blackstone and Saginaw. Later, police determined that the calls were connected and that the motorcycle and SUV at the site of the crash were the vehicles in question.
Witnesses also reported that someone involved in the incident had pulled out a gun, but police were unable to find any weapons at the scene of the crash.
The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital, where he ultimately died.
This is allegedly an instance of road rage, although officials are still unsure. Regardless, the SUV driver and passenger are said to be cooperating with police officials. The victim has not been identified.
Officers are also speaking to businesses in the area in order to get relevant surveillance video of the crash.
As reported by Your Central Valley, the owner of a nearby shop was able to give an account of the incident.
The owner of Wheelmaxx Auto Shop, Mohammad Almghrabi, claimed to have been inside the store at the time of the crash. “Suddenly I hear a huge sound accident… I look to the left side, I find the motorcycle here,” he says.
Almghrabi claims that he then walked out of the store to see the motorcycle on fire, at which point he rushed over to the scene to help. “They stop the car here and they start running out of the car to see what’s going on with that…they closed the whole area, we couldn’t have any customers leave or go inside of the shop too,” he recounts.
According to Fresno Police Officer Felipe Uribe, “The fire was quickly put out. The vehicle doesn’t appear to be caught on fire but it did become disabled soon after the collision.”
Anyone with information about the incident has been requested to call the Fresno Police Department at (559) 621-7000.
