Police Officer Death gets California Governor’s Attention, Flags at Half-Staff
March 1, 20223-year-old Child Killed in Apartment Truck Accident, Long Beach
March 3, 2022
A father killed his three daughters and a mandated adult chaperone, and then turned around the gun and killed himself. This took place around 5 p.m. on Monday in a Sacramento church building. Apparently, the man was held under a restraining order against him from the children’s mother. This church building was a regular meeting place for the man and the kids.
The event took place within the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento, and the incident has been reported to have been isolated to the inside of the church building. The threat has apparently ended, and no other suspects appear to have been involved.
The assailant was not supposed to have a gun, however he was reported to have used an AR-15-style semi automatic rifle in the incident.
The mother of the three daughters is alive and has been notified, according to an article by Sky News. She was apparently out of town.
Sacramento City Councilman Eric Guerra has called this a “mass casualty shooting event” and advised those in the area to be cautious and alert while law enforcement responded.
Fox News reports that all who were killed were pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, authorities believe the incident was related to domestic violence and are investigating. Roads nearby were reportedly closed following the incident for the investigation, and investigators stayed in the area overnight.
“We are actively monitoring the shooting at a church in Sacramento and working closely with local law enforcement,” claimed Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom in a tweet. “Our thoughts are with the community, parishioners, and all those impacted by this horrific event.”
According to AP News, an employee for The Church In Sacramento heard the gunshots and then called 911. The Church of Sacramento has not yet publicly responded to the incident.
A large amount of law enforcement was present following the incident, including a SWAT team, officers from the Sacramento Police Department, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol.
The identities of the victims and the assailant are all yet to be released. However, officials have reported that the shooter was 39-years-old, and the daughters were aged 9, 10, and 13.
Apparently, the shooter may have suffered from a form of mental illness that could have added to the severity of the situation.
While it was initially unclear whether the adult victim was a church employee or a social worker, NBC News states that the visit was court supervised.
Governor Gavin Newsom has also responded to the event in a Twitter statement, deeming it a “senseless act of gun violence in America – this time in our backyard. In a church with kids inside.”
He continued to state that the incident was “Absolutely devastating. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and their communities. We are working closely with local law enforcement.”
