Alonzo Prado Visalia (Nancy Haywood Visalia): Alonzo Prado, Nancy Haywood From Exeter Injured In Visalia Lamborghini Car Accident By Walnut Avenue and Court Street That Left One Woman Dead
VISALIA, CALIFORNIA (June 16, 2019) – An allegedly intoxicated Lamborghini driver is being accused of causing a car accident that injured Alonzo Prado, Nancy Haywood and killed another woman near the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Court Street.
Visalia police were attempting to pull over the driver of the Lamborghini. But the driver of the Lamborghini refused to pull over and drove away at a high rate of speed.
Just a few moments later the Lamborghini crashed into two vehicles identified as a Lincoln and a Toyota by the intersection of Court Street and Walnut Avenue.
The driver of the Lincoln was identified as 32-year-old Nancy Haywood from Exeter. The driver of the Toyota was identified as 23-year-old Alonzo Prado from Visalia.
Authorities are saying that the force of the impact pushed the Toyota 75 feet from the intersection. A female passenger in the Toyota was severely injured.
Alonzo Prado, Nancy Haywood and the third victim all had to be treated for the injuries. Unfortunately, Alonzo Prado’s passenger latter succumbed to her injuries and died at the Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
Police took the driver of the Lamborghini to the hospital and discovered a loaded .45 caliber pistol in his car. When he is cleared from the hospital he will be arrested for felony DUI, unlawful possession of a firearm and manslaughter.
DUI Car Accident Statistics
According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Every day, 29 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver. This is one death every 50 minutes. The annual cost of alcohol-related crashes totals more than $44 billion.” In any given year nearly 10,000 people are killed in accidents with intoxicated drivers. This is due in part to over 100 million unique instances of alcohol impaired driving every year.
Alcohol severely impairs a person’s ability to make reasoned judgments. A driver’s reaction time also slows down dramatically. There is simply no excuse to drink and drive. There are a number of highly accessible and affordable solutions for people who need transportation while they are intoxicated – including Uber and Lyft.
Liability In DUI Accidents
It is a felony to operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. According to California Vehicle Code 23152, “(a) It is unlawful for a person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage to drive a vehicle. (b) It is unlawful for a person who has 0.08 percent or more, by weight, of alcohol in his or her blood to drive a vehicle.” This includes taking any prescription or over the counter medications that may impede a driver’s ability to be safe. Victims of car accidents can be left with a wide variety of injuries including:
- Head injuries
- Spinal injuries
- Broken bones
- Soft tissue damage
- Organ damage
In fact, many of the wounds from a car accident may not be visible to the naked eye. Victims of severe car accidents often suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This can leave survivors with recurring and distressing thoughts of the event. This is why it’s so important to see a medical doctor as well as a psychiatrist for evaluation. Failing to seek medical treatment after an accident could compromise your ability to pursue a civil claim down the road.
Any person that is injured in a car accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. The family members of any victim that died in a car accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your options are.
