LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (April 15, 2019) – A truck carrying automobiles spontaneously exploded in the Port of Los Angeles by Knoll Drive in the China Shipping container terminal.
California Highway Patrol are saying that the driver of the truck may have sustained injuries in the accident around 9:50 a.m. Apparently one of the vehicles inside of the truck ignited and then exploded.
Authorities are saying that the explosion took place after the big rig truck went over a speed bump. There is an ongoing investigation into the accident at this time.
Liability In Truck Explosions
Explosion accidents can leave victims with catastrophic injuries. Here are just few examples of primary blast injuries according to NCBI:
- Blast ear – tympanic membrane rupture and middle ear damage
- Blast lung – injury to the lung parenchyma, can have delayed symptom presentation
- Blast brain – injury to brain parenchyma, even without direct injury to the head
- Blast eye – rupture of the globe of the eye
- Blast belly – injury causing abdominal hemorrhage and perforation (immediate and delayed).
Many of the associated injuries following an explosion are not easy to detect. It is important for victims of explosion accidents to seek medical treatment. Workers that get injured on the job may be able to seek benefits through workers compensation. According to the California Department of Industrial Relations Workers Compensation Guidebook, “If you get hurt on the job, your employer is required by law to pay for workers’ compensation benefits.”
What many workers don’t realize is that the worker’s compensation system may not be their only resource. Victims of truck accidents may be able to file a third party liability claim. For example, a car packing company could face civil liability for an accident if they were negligent. A truck accident attorney can investigate all of the facts of your case and let you know what your options are.
