Trevis Sloan San Diego Motorcycle Accident: Motorcyclist From San Bernardino Killed In Bonsall Accident With Truck Towing Horse Trailer On State Route 76 By Sweetgrass Lane

BONSALL, CALIFORNIA (October 20, 2019) – A 43-year-old motorcyclist identified as Trevis Sloan has tragically died in an accident with a truck pulling a horse trailer on State Route 76 by Sweetgrass Lane.

California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place around 6:15 p.m. A Chevrolet Silverado was towing a horse trailing and attempting to merge onto State Route 76 by Sweetgrass Lane.

The Chevy collided with a Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle knocking Trevis Sloan to the ground. Paramedics rushed to the scene in order to help the motorcyclist.

Trevis Sloan was transported to the hospital but died on the way there. An investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Bonsall Motorcycle Accidents

According to one report from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, “Motor vehicle crashes are complex events. Usually they involve two or more vehicles. Elements that influence the occurrence of a crash may take place hours, days, or months before the crash. They include driver training and experience, vehicle design and manufacture, highway condition and traffic signaling, and weather conditions. Other elements may take place immediately before a crash, such as a decision to turn in traffic, a tire blowout, or snow. Crash reconstruction experts rarely conclude that crashes are the result of a single factor.” Here are just a few of the most common reasons why car accidents take place:

  • Brake problems
  • Over-the-counter drug use
  • Prescription drug use
  • Traveling too fast for conditions
  • Unfamiliarity with roadway
  • Roadway problems
  • Cargo shift
  • Inadequate surveillance
  • Fatigue

Generally speaking, motorcyclists are at a higher risk of being involved in car accidents. They have a small profile and are more likely to be overlooked when drivers are merging into lanes. Drivers are supposed to check their surroundings before attempting to make a lane change. According to California Vehicle Code 22107, “No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety and then only after the giving of an appropriate signal in the manner provided in this chapter in the event any other vehicle may be affected by the movement.”

If the driver of a vehicle was working at the time of an accident the company that they were working for could also be found at fault. This could be the case if the at fault driver was transporting livestock such as horses. Under the legal doctrine of respondeat superior, companies will tend to be liable for the negligent conduct of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. It’s important that at fault drivers are properly investigated to learn if they were working at the time of an accident.

The family of any victim that died in a truck accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, funeral expenses, medical bills and pain and suffering. Potential claimants in a civil matter may include a victim’s spouse, children, siblings and parents. Unfortunately, transportation companies will often fight hard to deny liability for any accident. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case free of cost and get you the answers that you deserve.
