Liability In Dump Truck Accidents
Every year nearly 35,000 people are killed in car accidents. At least 5,000 of those that die are pedestrians. Hundreds of thousands more are seriously injured and require hospitalization. There are a number of factors that may contribute to a dump truck accident including:
- Driver distraction
- Unfamiliarity with the roadway
There are a number of ways that a dump truck company could be held liable for an accident. For example, a truck company may have failed to maintain a truck in a safe condition or they may have failed to offer adequate training and use properly licensed drivers. A fully loaded dump truck can weigh over 10,000 lbs, which is why it is so important for drivers to use the utmost caution.
Based on one report from the FMCSA, the costs associated with a non-fatal truck accident can easily reach $200,000 and higher. Any person that is injured in a dump truck accident may have the ability to recover compensation for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Victims may not even realize the full extent of their injuries until several weeks or months following an accident. A truck accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case free of cost and let you know what your options are.
