Paul Neves San Meteo: Paul Neves, 35, From Fremont Killed In San Mateo Motorcycle Accident With Truck On La Honda Road

SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA (July 1, 2019) – A 35-year-old man from Fremont identified as Paul Neves has tragically died in a motorcycle accident on La Honda Road.

California Highway Patrol are saying that the car accident took place around 3:13 p.m. as Paul Neves was riding a motorcycle. A driver in a truck was turning into a private driveway from La Honda Road.

Paul Neves struck the hood of the truck and was ejected from his motorcycle. Paramedics rushed to the scene in order to help the victim.

He sustained a broken leg and serious internal trauma. He had to be airlifted to the Stanford Hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.

Liability In Motorcycle Accidents

According to the Insurance Information Institute, “In 2016, 5,286 people died in motorcycle crashes, up 5.1 percent from 5,029 in 2015, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Motorcycle fatalities have increased for the second year in a row and are at the highest level since 2008, when 5,312 people died in motorcycle crashes.” Motorcyclists are by their very nature much smaller than cars and are therefore much more likely to be overlooked.

Vehicles that are making left turns are one of the number one causes of fatal motorcycle accidents. If a driver turns into the path of a motorcyclist they will likely be found at fault in the event of an accident. According to California Vehicle Code 21801, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement.” There are a number of injuries that can result from a motorcycle accident including:

  • Head trauma
  • Muscle damage
  • Broken bones
  • Spinal trauma
  • Internal trauma

The family of any victim that died in a motorcycle accident may be able to seek justice through California Code of Civil Procedure 377.60. Damages in a civil claim can help cover medical bills, lost wages, funeral expenses and emotional trauma. A wrongful death attorney can investigate your case free of cost and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with civil claims. So, it’s important to be proactive.
