Max Thurtle North Fork: Max Thurtle Injured In North Fork Motorcycle Accident On Road 274

NORTH FORK, CALIFORNIA (August 24, 2019) – A 41-year-old man identified as Max Thurtle was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Road 274.

California Highway Patrol are saying that the North Fork motorcycle accident took place around 5:15 p.m. Max Thurtle was riding his motorcycle when a 21-year-old man driving a Jeep began making a u-turn.

Max Thurtle took evasive action but still collided with the Jeep. He struck the driver’s side door of the Jeep Wrangler and was thrown from his bike.

The victim had to be airlifted to the Community Regional Medical Center located in Fresno. An investigation into the motorcycle accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Motorcycle Accidents

According to III, “Motorcycles are by their nature far less crashworthy than closed vehicles. They are also less visible to other drivers and pedestrians and less stable than four-wheel vehicles. Operating a motorcycle requires a different combination of physical and mental skills than those used in driving four-wheel vehicles.” Motorcycle accidents tend to happen when drivers are:

  • Distracted
  • Fatigued
  • Intoxicated
  • Speeding

If a driver was making a u-turn at the time of an accident they will likely be found at fault. Drivers are legally required to yield the right of way to vehicles close enough to pose a hazard before making a u-turn. According to California Vehicle Code 21801, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement.” Victims of motorcycle accidents often suffer from very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Head injuries
  • Burn injuries
  • Post traumatic stress disorder

Victims of motorcycle accidents may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering. A motorcycle accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. It doesn’t cost anything to hire an attorney and they can make sure that all of your rights are being protected.
