Mary Lo-Wong San Jose International Airport: 62-Year-Old Mary Lo-Wong Died In Car Accident After Being Hit By Ford F-150 Pickup Truck At Terminal B Parking Garage
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA (March 3, 2019) – A 62-year-old woman identified as Mary Lo-Wong has tragically died three days after being hit by a Ford F-150 pickup truck in the Terminal B parking garage of the San Jose International Airport.
Investigators are saying that the accident was first reported around 1:10 p.m. on Monday. Mary Lo-Wong was pushing a luggage cart through the parking garage when she was hit by the pickup truck.
The 29-year-old driver of the Ford F-150 remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believe to have been factors. The driver remained at the crash scene by the front entrance of the parking garage. Mary Lo-Wong was rushed to the hospital in critical condition where she later died.
City officials are saying that this is the sixth pedestrian fatality so far this year. The San Jose Police Department and the San Jose International Airport are continuing their investigation at this time.
Liability In Parking Garage Accidents
Parking garages can be particularly dangerous spots for pedestrians. Companies have a responsibility to keep their parking garages in a reasonably safe manner in order to avoid accidents. According to the California Civil Code § 1714 subsection (a), “Everyone is responsible, not only for the result of his or her willful acts, but also for an injury occasioned to another by his or her want of ordinary care or skill in the management of his or her property or person, except so far as the latter has, willfully or by want of ordinary care, brought the injury upon himself or herself.”
The San Jose International Airport has a legal responsibility to make sure that their parking garages are in a reasonably safe condition. A parking garage may be in a dangerous condition if it has any of the following hazards:
- Poor lighting
- Blind turns
- Tight corners
- Negligent drivers
- Unmarked or poorly marked lanes
- Missing or inadequate signage
If an airport or other company fails to maintain their parking garages in a reasonably safe manner they may face civil liability in the event of an accident. The family of a victim that died may be able to pursue a claim against a negligent driver as well as the property owner. A premises liability attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your rights are. There are statute of limitations associated with being able to file a claim, so it’s important to act quickly.
