Mary Doda Prather: Mary Doda Injured In Prather Head-On Car Accident On Highway 168 Near Vineyard Lane

PRATHER, CALIFORNIA (June 24, 2019) – Mary Doda was seriously injured in head-on car accident on Highway 168 that left two other people dead.

California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place on Saturday morning around 10:00 a.m. by Vineyard Lane. For reasons that remain under investigation, a GMC veered down an embankment and onto the westbound lanes of the freeway.

The vehicle hit a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Mary Doda. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene to help all of those that were injured.

The daughter-in-law of Mary Doda said she is a loan officer and was on her way to Shaver Lake. She also told reporters that the victim sustained a broken sternum, glass in her eye and face as well as major burns.

An investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Head-On Collisions

Head-on collisions are among the most deadly type of accident that a person can be involved in. A number of head-on collisions take place when one driver crosses a double yellow line. According to California Vehicle Code 21460, “(a) If double parallel solid yellow lines are in place, a person driving a vehicle shall not drive to the left of the lines, except as permitted in this section.” There are number of factors that may contribute to a head-on collision including:

  • Inclement weather
  • Driving while fatigued
  • Driving while intoxicated
  • Poor road conditions

Negligence in a head-on collision may extend beyond a driver. For example, a defect within the roadway could cause a car to loose control. Poorly graded roads or unbaked turns could easily contribute to an accident. Depending on the facts of any case, a city could be held liable for the accident under California Code of Civil Procedure 835.

According to the law, “Except as provided by statute, a public entity is liable for injury caused by a dangerous condition of its property if the plaintiff establishes that the property was in a dangerous condition at the time of the injury, that the injury was proximately caused by the dangerous condition.”

Any person that is injured in a head-on car accident may have the ability to get assistance through a civil claim. Damages in a civil claim may include money for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with being able to file claim so it’s important to act quickly.
