Mark Gregory Yucca Valley: Mark Gregory of Palm Springs Injured In Yucca Valley Car Accident at Joshua Lane and Highway 62
YUCCA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA (September 14, 2019) – A 52-year-old man from Palm Springs identified as Mark Gregory was injured in a motorcycle accident with a drunk driver by Joshua Lane and Highway 62.
California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place around 11:19 p.m. Mark Gregory was stopped with his motorcycle at a red light when he was rear-ended by another driver.
Mark Gregory sustained numerous broken bones in the car accident and was later transported to the Desert Hospital in order to receive treatment. Authorities arrested the driver that hit the victim on felony DUI.
Police said that the driver had methamphetamine in his system and was driving on a suspended license. He was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and his bail was set at $100,000.
Liability In DUI Accidents
According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, “Drugs other than alcohol (e.g., marijuana and cocaine) are involved in about 18% of motor vehicle driver deaths. More than a third of teens mistakenly believe they drive better under the influence of marijuana.” Based on research from the National Institute of Drug Abuse, “Marijuana significantly impairs judgment, motor coordination, and reaction time, and studies have found a direct relationship between blood THC concentration and impaired driving ability”
It is a felony to operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and cause an accident resulting in bodily injury. According to California Vehicle Code 23152, “It is unlawful for a person who is addicted to the use of any drug to drive a vehicle. It is unlawful for a person who has 0.08 percent or more, by weight, of alcohol in his or her blood to drive a vehicle.” Victims of DUI accidents are protected by a number of laws.
Accident victims are able to hold negligent drivers accountable through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with filing civil claims. It is therefore important to act quickly.
