Liability In Visalia Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists are at a much greater likelihood of being seriously injured in a car accident. They have less protection than passenger vehicles and are more likely to be overlooked. Here are just a few of the most common causes of motorcycle accidents:

  • Driver fatigue
  • Failure to check blind spots
  • Driver intoxication
  • Illegal maneuvers
  • Speeding

Drivers are supposed to check for motorcyclists before attempting to turn or merge into another lane. According to California Vehicle Code 21801, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement.” Victims of motorcycle accidents tend to suffer from very serious injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Head trauma
  • Internal trauma
  • PTSD

Any person that is injured in a motorcycle accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a bodily injury claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A motorcycle accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with being able to pursue a civil claim so it’s important to act quickly.
