Jedidiah Crews San Francisco (SFO): Jedidiah Crews From Seattle Killed In San Francisco International Airport Car Accident By The International Terminal
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (July 3, 2019) – A 33-year-old man from Seattle identified as Jedidiah Crews has tragically died in a car accident at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
San Francisco police are saying that the multi-vehicle accident took place around 3:30 p.m. A black Ford Expedition accelerated from the curb and hit a car that was loading Jedidiah Crews and two other passengers.
The Ford Expedition hit the other vehicle and spun it 180 degrees. Authorities do not believe that the accident was intentional. It appears that the driver mistook the accelerator for the brakes.
Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the San Francisco International Airport in order to help all of the victims. Despite life-saving efforts Jedidiah Crews died due to his injuries.
The two other pedestrians had to be transported to the hospital with injuries. After interviewing the 46-year-old suspect driving the Ford Expedition he was arrested and booked in the San Mateo County Jail.
Liability In Accidents At Airport Terminals
Depending on the facts of any case, there may be numerous sources of potential liability for an airport accident. Of course, a driver could be held liable for an accident if they were negligent. A number of serious collisions occur every year when drivers experience pedal confusion. Pedal confusion takes place when the driver of a car mistakes the accelerator for the brakes. This typically happens with elderly drivers, but it can affect anyone at any age.
In addition to driver negligence, the owner of an airport may face civil liability if an accident was caused by a defect on their property. According to the California Civil Code § 1714 subsection (a), “Everyone is responsible, not only for the result of his or her willful acts, but also for an injury occasioned to another by his or her want of ordinary care or skill in the management of his or her property or person, except so far as the latter has, willfully or by want of ordinary care, brought the injury upon himself or herself.”
For example, airport terminals can be extremely dangerous. They are constantly filled with cars and pedestrians that must interact with each other. This increases the need for traffic calming measures like speed bumps and signs. The family of any victim that died in a car accident at the San Francisco International Airport may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover funeral expenses, lost wages, medical bills and emotional trauma.
