Los Angeles police are saying that the roof fall accident took place at a residential address around 11:45 a.m. The victim died due to blunt force trauma following the fall.

Liability In Roof Fall Accidents
According to OSHA, falls are the number one cause of injury and death at construction sites. Nearly 38.7% of accidents involve a worker that fell. Falls often take place when safety procedures are not met or followed. For example, a fall might occur when a worker is climbing up a ladder which then gives out from underneath them. These types of accidents can be prevented by bracing the ladder at the bottom to prevent slippage.
Workers should also be given fall arrest systems in certain situations. A fall arrest system is a device that a worker wears that catches them if they slip off a surface. OSHA recommends that workers use fall arrest systems when they are working on platforms above 6 feet. When a worker dies on the job their family will usually be entitled to workers compensation benefits.
In addition to worker’s compensation, an injured worker or their family may have the ability to file a third party negligence claim. Worker’s are barred from suing their employers directly, but when an entity separate from a worker’s employer causes an accident this may allow for a third party claim. If a worker falls due to a dangerous condition on a property, the company leading the construction project could potentially face liability.
