Charter Bus Involved In Accident After Being Rear Ended By Truck On 84 Freeway In Fremont By Dumbarton Bridge Toll Plaza
FREMONT, CALIFORNIA (October 11, 2018) A charter bus that was initially mischaracterized as a “Facebook bus” was involved in an accident when a truck traveling at a high rate of speed rear-ended it on Highway 84.
California Highway Patrol are saying that the bus accident took place just after 2:00 p.m. A number of people on the bus were injured and had to be treated including the drivers.
The charter bus involved in the crash was pulled over to the side of the road on CA-84 just after the Dumbarton Bridge Toll Plaza. A blue truck that was traveling quickly smashed into the back of the bus.
A picture of the Fremont bus accident shows the blue truck with major front end damage. There was a severe traffic backup on the highway as a result of the collision.
An investigation into the Fremont bus accident remains ongoing at this time.
Different Types of Truck Accidents
There are numerous types of truck accidents and they all happen for different reasons. The Fremont bus accident is part of a larger trend of accidents across the United States. It’s been estimated that around 5,000 people are killed annually in crashes involving trucks or buses. Here are just a few of the different types of truck accidents that occur:
Trucks can be very difficult to maneuver. If a driver ends up turning to quickly they could end up jackknifing.
Trucks also tend to have a high center of gravity making it more likely that they will roll over.
Tire blowouts can cause drivers to lose control and veer dangerously to the left or right. Rollovers are very common after blowouts.
Head-on crashes with trucks are almost always fatal. Drivers may fall asleep or become distracted.
Rear-end collisions tend to occur when a truck driver is operating their vehicle at a dangerous speed. Trucks are heavy and difficult to stop. It’s especially important that truck drivers are maintaining a safe distance with the vehicle in front of them.
Victims of truck accidents may not even initially realize that they are injured. In fact, injuries may take days or weeks to fully manifest. A truck accident attorney can take steps to help you get financial compensation after an accident.
Liability In Accidents Involving Trucks and Buses
There are a number of potential sources of liability with respect to this Fremont bus accident. For example, a bus driver may be negligent for an accident if they were pulled over to the road at an unsafe location or if they weren’t all the way over. Bus drivers should also engage their hazard lights with they need to pull over. A truck driver will almost always be held liable for a rear-end accident. There is presumed negligence in rear-end collisions because a driver is supposed to maintain a safe distance with the vehicle in front of it. Hitting a car from behind is highly suggestive that the driver was either going too fast or not paying attention.
