Liability In DUI Accidents
When police officers are injured in a car accident they will typically have recourse through a bodily injury claim. According to the California Department of Industrial Relations Workers Compensation Guidebook, “If you get hurt on the job, your employer is required by law to pay for workers’ compensation benefits.” It’s important to let your doctor know that you were injured on the job.
What many workers don’t realize is that the workers compensation system may not be their only recourse after an accident. An injured worker may also be able to seek damages through a third party liability claim. A third party claim may be possible if an entity separate from a worker’s employer was responsible for an accident. For example, a third party in an accident could be an intoxicated driver.
Any person that is injured in an accident with a drunk driver may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages can help supplement worker’s compensation and may include money for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
