SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA (September 1, 2019) – A 20-year-old man identified as Fernando Alvarez has tragically died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident near the intersection of Fourth Street and East San Fernando Street.

San Jose police are saying that the car accident took place around 8:00 a.m. Paramedics were called to the scene and they found Fernando Alvarez seriously injured in the street. 

Despite life-saving measures the victim later died due to his injuries. Police are still searching for the driver that hit the victim.

An investigation into the car accident that killed Fernando Alvarez remains ongoing at this time.

According to research from the NHTSA, “The current analysis found that both the rates of hit-and-run crashes and fatalities are increasing. There were an estimated 737,100 hit-and-run crashes in 2015 (NHTSA, 2016). This translates to a hit-and-run crash happening somewhere in the U.S. every 43 seconds.
