California Highway Patrol are saying that the two vehicle crash happened around 5:30 p.m. A man driving a 2016 Nissan Titan turned directly into the path of a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser that was carrying the victims.

Liability In Head-On Crashes
All drivers have a responsibility to drive according to the prevailing conditions of the road and keep their eyes out for other drivers. A number of crashes occur when drivers make illegal or dangerous turns. According to California Vehicle Code 21801, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety.”
Drivers that hit vehicles as they are making left turns will typically be found at fault for an accident. However, there are a number of possible exceptions:
- The driver of the vehicle going straight was traveling in excess of the speed limit.
- The driver of a vehicle going straight went through a red light.
- The driver of the vehicle turning left started to turn when it was safe but then slowed down for unexpected reasons.
Most intersections have surveillance cameras that can be used to help determine what happened in an accident. Victims are often left with severe and lasting injuries that can leave them out of work and with high medical bills. For example, the lifetime costs of treating a traumatic brain injury (TBI) can range anywhere from $85,000 – $3,000,000. Many of the injuries associated with motor vehicle accidents can be psychological. For example, around 9% of accident victims developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after an accident. Some of the symptoms of PTSD may include:
- Distressing recollections of the traumatic event
- Distressing dreams of the trauma
- Feeling as if the trauma was ongoing
- Sleep difficulty
- Problems Concentrating
- Irritability or outbursts of anger
