Claremont School Bus Accident Injured Multiple People By Towne Avenue and Scripps Avenue
CLAREMONT, CALIFORNIA (September 6, 2019) – At least two people were injured in a special needs school bus accident near the intersection of Towne Avenue and Scripps Avenue.
California Highway Patrol are saying that an 81-year-old driver failed to yield to a school bus and began making a left turn onto Scripps Avenue. The Nissan Versa and the special needs school bus collided.
There were two children on the bus at the time of the accident, but both were uninjured. The bus was apparently coming from Sumner Danbury Elementary School.
The driver of the school bus sustained a laceration to the bridge of her nose. An investigation into the bus accident remains ongoing at this time.
Liability In School Bus Accidents
School bus drivers are protected by a number of laws in the event that they get injured. According to the California Department of Industrial Relations Workers Compensation Guidebook, “If you get hurt on the job, your employer is required by law to pay for workers’ compensation benefits.” But worker’s compensation may not be a school bus driver’s only recourse after an accident. If, for example, another driver caused an accident by making a left turn they may face civil liability as well.
According to California Vehicle Code 21801, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement.”
Any person that is injured in a school bus accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a bodily injury claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A bus accident can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. It doesn’t cost anything to hire an attorney and they can make sure that your rights are being protected.
