Liability In Motorcycle Accidents
According to III, Motorcycles are by their nature far less crashworthy than closed vehicles. They are also less visible to other drivers and pedestrians and less stable than four-wheel vehicles. Operating a motorcycle requires a different combination of physical and mental skills than those used in driving four-wheel vehicles.” Motorcycles are also much smaller making it more likely that they are overlooked by other drivers. Victims of motorcycle accidents are likely to suffer from:
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Internal trauma
- Spinal cord injuries
A number of very serious accidents take place when drivers make dangerous or illegal left turns. According to California Vehicle Code 21801, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement.”
Any person that is injured in a motorcycle accident due to the negligence of another driver may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim may help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A motorcycle accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal rights are. It doesn’t cost anything to hire an attorney and they can begin taking steps to make sure that your rights are being protected.
