Liability In Car Accidents

Head-on collisions typically occur when one driver veers outside of their lane into opposing lanes of traffic. These types of accidents are among the most dangerous types of collisions that a person can be involved in. Head-on collisions account for only 2% of all accidents but nearly 11% of all traffic fatalities. Here are just a few of the most common reasons that head-on collisions take place:

  • Driver intoxication
  • Driver fatigue
  • Driver distraction
  • Speeding
  • Inclement weather
  • Adverse road conditions

Drivers that cross over double yellow lines will typically be held at fault in the event of an accident. According to California Vehicle Code 21460, “If double parallel solid yellow lines are in place, a person driving a vehicle shall not drive to the left of the lines, except as permitted in this section.” Victims of head-on collisions tend to suffer from very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Head injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Broken bones
  • Internal trauma
  • Post traumatic stress disorder

Victims of car accidents will typically have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, past and future medical bills and pain and suffering. It’s important to seek medical treatment and follow up care after an accident. Failing to seek all of the proper medical care may jeopardize your ability to file a claim down the road. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case for free and let you know what your legal options are.
