Dec 20, 2018

Angela Johnson Remains On Life Support After Being Mauled By Three Pit Bulls At Her Home In Anza On Mitchell Road

ANZA, CALIFORNIA (December 20, 2018) –  A riverside county woman identified as Angela Johnson was doing laundry in the front of her home when she was viciously attacked by three  pit bulls.

Angela Johnson was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. She remains at the Desert Regional Medical Center on life support.

According to a GoFundMe page, one of the dogs severed an artery and caused the victim to suffer a stroke. Tim Platt is the woman’s only child.

The owner of the dogs was arrested following the incident due to an outstanding arrest warrant. He has since been released after posting $20,000 for bail. A hearing will be held in order to determine whether or not the three pit bulls associated with the attack will be euthanized.

An investigation into the Anza dog attack that seriously injured
Angela Johnson remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Dog Attacks

There are a number of counties in California that have leash laws. In most circumstances, dog owners have a responsibility to keep their dog on a leash, unless they are in an area designated specifically for dogs. Beyond local leash laws there a state law that governs liability if a person is injured in a dog attack. Generally speaking, the owners of dogs will be held strictly liable if their dog attacks another person.

According to the California Civil Code Section 3342, “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.” As the law states, an owner can’t try to escape liability by saying that they didn’t know their dog would attack anyone.

Dog attacks can leave victims with traumatic injuries and high medical bills. A victim of a dog attack or their family will have the ability to file a claim against a dog owner. A dog bite injury attorney can evaluate the specific facts of your case and let you know if you have a claim that can be pursued. There are strict statute of limitations associated with being able to file a claim so it’s important to act quickly.
