Angel Acevedo Huntington Park: Angel Acevedo Injured In Huntington Park Car Accident While Bicycling On Wilmington Avenue

HUNTINGTON PARK, CALIFORNIA (June 27, 2019) – A 14-year-old boy identified as Angel Acevedo was critically injured in a car accident while riding his bicycle on Wilmington Avenue.

Wilmington Park police are saying that the accident took place around 9:50 p.m. on June 22. Angel Acevedo was rushed to the USC Medical Center and remains in a coma.

Authorities have said that the driver who hit Angel Acevedo did not remain at the scene and is currently being sought by police. The driver is believed to be in a Nissan Maxima.

Neighbors are saying that there has been a problem in the area with speeding drivers. Any person that may have seen what happened should contact the Huntington Park Police Department at 323-826-6615.

Liability In Hit-And-Run Accidents

Drivers are supposed to keep an eye out for bicyclists and take measures to prevent accidents. Most accidents take place when drivers are either intoxicated, speeding or distracted. It is a felony to flee the scene of an accident that causes bodily injury. According to California Vehicle Code 20001, “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident and shall fulfill the requirements of Sections 20003 and 20004.”

Depending on certain facts, a city could potentially face civil liability for an accident. A number of collisions take place because streets or intersections lack adequate signs. Victims of bicycle accidents tend to suffer from catastrophic and costly injuries. Many victims suffer from traumatic brain injuries. According to the Mayo Clinic symptoms may include:

  • Loss of consciousness for a few seconds to a few minutes
  • No loss of consciousness, but a state of being dazed, confused or disoriented
  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fatigue or drowsiness
  • Problems with speech
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Sleeping more than usual
  • Dizziness or loss of balance

The average cost to treat a moderate to serious TBI can easily reach over $250,000. Victims of bicycle accidents can recover damages for their medical bills through a civil claim. A bicycle accident attorney can fight on your behalf to hold the negligent driver that harmed you accountable for their actions. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with pursuing a claim, so it’s important to act quickly.
