Staying Safe As A Pedestrian
Pedestrian accidents can leave victims with lasting trauma and high medical bills. It has been estimated that nearly 5,000 pedestrians are killed every year in car accidents. However, there are a number of steps that a pedestrian can taken in order to reduce the probability that they will be involved in an accident:
Wear bright clothing and if possible get reflective patches. A number of pedestrian accidents happen at night with people that are wearing black or dark clothing.
Don’t assume that vehicles will stop for you. Use your best judgement to estimate the path of vehicles. If a car doesn’t appear to be slowing down at an intersection, there’s a good chance they wont stop.
Don’t wear headphones or use your phone while you are walking through an intersection. It’s important to maintain situational awareness.
If you are involved in an accident there are a number of steps that you should take to help preserve your rights. Seek medical treatment and contact an experienced pedestrian accident attorney. An attorney can conduct a thorough investigation into your case and help you receive a fair settlement for your injuries.
Liability In A Pedestrian Accident
There are a number of parties that could face civil liability for the tragic car accident that killed Allan King. Investigators will need to look at the speed of the driver and their behavior prior to the crash. But driver negligence isn’t the only possible source of liability. If the road that the victim was walking on was in a dangerous condition, the city of San Ramon could be held liable. Intersections can be dangerous when they lack basic safety features like stop signs or traffic signals. When a road or intersection has a history of accidents it’s important that city officials take corrective measures to address the problem.
