Rio Vista Truck Accident: 49-Year-Old Woman Injured In Rio Vista Truck Accident On Highway 12 Near Jackson Slough Road

RIO VISTA, CALIFORNIA (July 4, 2019) – A 49-year-old woman was seriously injured when her car was rear-ended by a semi-truck and then pushed into the back of another semi-truck near Jackson Slough Road on Highway 12.

California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place around 9:30 a.m. A big rig was unable to slow down in time and rear-ended a pickup truck carrying six people.

All six people in the pickup truck were injured from the crash. The out of control big rig then hit the white sedan carrying the 49-year-old woman.

By the time offers arrived at the scene, there was hardly a car left. Firefighters were able to extricate the victim who was airlifted to the NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield.

An investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Semi-Truck Accidents

Truck drivers have a responsibility to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner and according to the prevailing conditions of the road. According to California Vehicle Code 22350, “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.”

Trucks should be following the lead vehicle ahead of them at a safe distance. Following a vehicle too closely puts both drivers at risk. There should be sufficient distance between the vehicles so that even if the lead vehicle stops abruptly the truck can stop in time. Here are just a few of the reasons why rear-end collisions occur:

    • Driver fatigue
    • Driver distraction
    • Driver intoxication
    • Brake failure

People who are involved in truck accidents are often left with very serious injuries. Most victims of car accidents may not even realize the full extent of their injuries until several weeks or months following a collision. Head-injuries can be among the most difficult and expensive to recover from.According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms of a head-injury may include:

  • Loss of consciousness from several minutes to hours
  • Persistent headache or headache that worsens
  • Repeated vomiting or nausea
  • Convulsions or seizures
  • Inability to awaken from sleep
  • Weakness or numbness in fingers and toes
  • Profound confusion
  • Agitation, combativeness or other unusual behavior
  • Slurred speech

Any person that is injured in an accident due to the negligence of a truck driver may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help a victim recover money for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A truck accident attorney can work on your behalf and help you get the support that you deserve. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with being able to pursue a claim, so it’s important to act quickly.
