26-Year-Old Man Seriously Injured In Scooter Accident On The Mission Beach Boardwalk

MISSION BEACH, CALIFORNIA (March 4, 2019) – A 26-year-old man was seriously injured following a scooter accident on the Mission Beach Boardwalk.

Mission Beach police are saying that the 26-year-old was with a group of friends by Ocean Front Walk when he fell on Saturday. One of his friends said that he looked back and saw that the man had fallen.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident in order to treat the victim for his injuries. He was taken to the hospital with a fractured skull and brain bleed.

An investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this point. This is the second time in recent weeks that a person was seriously injured in a scooter accident in Mission beach.

On January 16, 2019 a 26-year-old woman suffered a serious eye injury after falling off her scooter on the Mission Beach Boardwalk.

Liability In Scooter Accidents

Scooters have become increasingly more popular in southern California and the Bay Area. At the same time, scooter related head injuries and trips to the emergency room continue to rise. Here are a few of the most common causes of scooter accidents:

  • Car accidents
  • Stem collapses
  • Stuck Accelerators
  • Defective roads

Even if a driver is perfectly cautious, accidents can still occur. A small pothole, for example, can turn into a lethal hazard for a scooter rider. Cities like Mission Beach have a responsibility to keep their roads and sidewalks reasonably safe. According to the California Civil Code § 1714 subsection (a), “Everyone is responsible, not only for the result of his or her willful acts, but also for an injury occasioned to another by his or her want of ordinary care or skill in the management of his or her property or person, except so far as the latter has, willfully or by want of ordinary care, brought the injury upon himself or herself.”

Any person that is injured in a scooter accident may be able to recover damages through a bodily injury claim. The lifetime costs associated with treating a brain injury can range anywhere from $85,000 to $3,000,000. This can be a crushing burden for most individuals and families. A scooter accident attorney can investigate your claim free of charge and let you know if you have a claim that can be pursued.
