According to ABC 7, a 3-year-old boy died and his pregnant mother lost her unborn child in a fatal car accident on the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles on Monday, July 9, 2018.
The fatal car accident occurred around 10 p.m., when the driver in a 2018 Mercedes-Benz SUV lost control of his vehicle and struck the back of a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo, which was stopped on the shoulder of the freeway for an unknown reason.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 25-year-old Nanci Martinez, who was seven-months pregnant, also had her 3-year-old and 5-year-old sons in the back seat.
Martinez and her two sons were transported to a nearby hospital, where her 3-year-old son died due to blunt force trauma. In addition, Martinez lost her unborn child.
Martinez and her 5-year-old son sustained moderate injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes, identified as Ken Li of Torrance, told authorities that he was having technical issues with his vehicle. Li and his wife, Anita Li, sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.
The cause of the fatal car accident remains under investigation.
According to authorities, alcohol or drugs were not suspected to have been a factor in the crash.
