Lily Harrison Murrieta: 15-Year-Old Freshman Lily Kelly Harrison Died In Car Accident With Drunk Driver Along Rancho California Road In Unincorporated Temecula

TEMECULA, CALIFORNIA (June 4, 2019) – A 15-year-old freshman identified as Lily Kelly Harrison has tragically died in a car accident with a drunk driver on Rancho California Road.

California Highway Patrol are saying that Lily Kelly Harrison and her two friends were both in the car when it was hit head-on. The car was being driven by an 18-year-old high school graduate and friend of the victim.

He had recently signed on to play football in college and needed over 4 hours of brain surgery following the car accident. Despite life-saving efforts, Lily Kelly Harrison was later pronounced dead due to her injuries.

All three of the victims were from Calvary Murrieta Christian High School. A vigil is currently being planned to honor the victims.

Liability In DUI Accidents

It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. According to California Vehicle Code 23152, “(a) It is unlawful for a person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage to drive a vehicle. (b) It is unlawful for a person who has 0.08 percent or more, by weight, of alcohol in his or her blood to drive a vehicle.” Despite this, drunk driving is still incredibly common.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “In 2016, more than 1 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.3 That’s one percent of the 111 million self-reported episodes of alcohol-impaired driving among U.S. adults each year.” Any person that causes an accident while intoxicated will likely face civil as well as criminal liability.

Any person that is injured in a car accident may have legal recourse. This includes the family members of any person killed in a car accident. Victims will be able to seek justice through California Code of Civil Procedure 377.60. Damages in a civil claim can help with funeral expenses, loss of income, medical bills, loss of love and emotional trauma. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your options are.
