According to the Press-Enterprise, a 17-year-old female passenger was killed in a suspected DUI car accident after the driver crashed into a tree in downtown Riverside on Monday, January 8, 2018.
The suspected DUI car accident occurred around 5 a.m. near the intersection of Second and Market streets.
According to authorities, an 18-year-old driver in a 2000 Honda Civic crashed into a tree, resulting in the death of the 17-year-old female passenger.
Firefighters had to rescue the 17-year-old passenger using the Jaws of Life. Unfortunately, she died at the scene. The victim killed in the suspected DUI car accident has not been identified.
The 18-year-old driver sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. His name has not been released and his condition remains unknown.
Alcohol or drugs are suspected to have been a factor in the fatal car accident.
