According to KTLA, one person was killed and two others were injured in a pedestrian accident in South Los Angeles on Monday, June 4, 2018.
The fatal pedestrian accident occurred near the victims’ school on Eight and Florence avenues around 3:45 p.m., when a vehicle struck the three victims after a collision involving another car.
The deceased victim, identified as 17-year-old Gabby Leyva, was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died. Leyva was a student at Alliance Renee and Meyer Luskin Academy.
The other two victims, both described as minors, suffered injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities described their injuries as non-life-threatening. One of the victims is a student at Alliance Luskin Academy and the other at Alliance Middle Leadership Academy.
According to authorities, the three victims were walking home from school when the vehicle struck them.
Leyva’s family and loved ones held a vigil in remembrance of the victim the following evening.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
