Gerald Munyon Simi Valley: Homeless Man Identified As Gerald Munyon Jr. Died In Car Accident After Being Run Over By Vehicle Along Los Angeles Avenue

SIMI VALLEY, CALIFORNIA (February 24, 2019) – A 47-year-old homeless man identified as Gerald Munyon Jr. died in a car accident after being run over in an alley.

Los Angeles police authorities are saying that the accident took place around 6:10 AM in an alley on 1470 East Los Angeles Avenue. Despite life-saving efforts Gerald Munyon Jr. was later pronounced dead.

The driver who was going down the alleyway stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Anyone that may have seen what happened should reach out to the Simi Valley police department.

Liability In Car Accidents

Alleyways can be particularly dangerous places to drive, especially at night. Drivers should yield the right of way to pedestrians. According to the California Vehicle Code 21950, “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.” Drivers that fail to yield the right of way to pedestrians may face civil liability for their actions.

The family members of a pedestrian that dies in a car accident are able to seek justice through a wrongful death claim. Next of kin may include the deceased person’s spouse, children, parents, brothers and sisters. Damages in a wrongful death claim can include compensation for lost wages, loss of love and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can investigate all aspects of your claim and let you know what your rights are.
