Man Dies In Industrial Accident At Santa Fe Springs Superprint Lithographics Printing Center After He Became Stuck In A Machine

SANTA FE SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA (March 10, 2019) – A man has tragically died after he was involved in an industrial accident at the Superprint Lithographics printing center located on the 8300 block of Secura Way.

Santa Fe Springs police are saying that a man became stuck inside a piece of machinery around 8:45 p.m. The victim was removed from the equipment and unresponsive by the time paramedics arrived.

Despite life-saving efforts, the man was later pronounced dead at the scene. Cal/OSHA are still investigating the accident at the Superprint Lithographics Printing Center.

Liability In Workplace Accidents

There may be numerous forms of liability in any accident at a workplace. Companies are responsible for providing their employees with adequate training and keeping their premises reasonably safe. California law bars workers from bringing suit against their employers directly. However, every company must purchase worker’s compensation insurance to protect their worker’s if they get injured.

According to the California Department of Industrial Relations Workers Compensation Guidebook, “If you get hurt on the job, your employer is required by law to pay for workers’ compensation benefits.” A victim’s spouse, children or other dependents may be entitled to death benefits. In order to prevent accidents employers should

  • ensure that lockout and tagout procedures are understood and implemented
  • ensure that employees are informed of all potential job hazards
  • ensure that employees are given general and job specific health and safety training

In addition to worker’s compensation, the family of a deceased worker may be able to pursue a third party liability claim. A third party liability claim may be possible if an entity separate from a worker’s employer caused the accident. For example, if a printing machine malfunctions and seriously injures or kills a worker the company that designed that machine could face civil liability for the accident. A wrongful death attorney can investigate all aspects of your case and let you know what your options are.
