Taylor Soetje Santa Clara: Taylor Soetje Injured In Santa Clara Pit Bull Dog Attack At Wag Hotel

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA (June 15, 2019) – A South Bay woman identified as Taylor Soetje was injured in a pit bull dog attack at the Wag Hotel.

Santa Clara police are saying that an employee at the Wag Hotel was walking a pit bull when it began attacking her. Taylor Soetje jumped in to help her coworker and she was attacked as well.

She was able to get the dog free, but it eventually turned on Taylor Soetje’s manager. Her manager was seriously injured in the dog attack and remains in the hospital.

Police were called and it took several officers to constrain the dog. Wag Hotel has not yet released a comment on the attack.

The pit bull is currently in the custody of the Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority. An investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Dog Attacks

According to the Center’s For Disease Control, “approximately 4.7 million dog bites occur in the United States each year, and 800,000 of those bites result in medical care. The U.S. population is approximately 325.7 million people as of 2017. That means a dog bites 1 out of every 69 people.” When an employee is injured in a dog attack at work they will typically have recourse through the worker’s compensation system.

According to the California Department of Industrial Relations Workers Compensation Guidebook, “If you get hurt on the job, your employer is required by law to pay for workers’ compensation benefits.” What many worker’s don’t realize is that other avenues of support may be available to them. California is a strict liability state when it comes to dog attacks.

According to California Civil Code 3342, “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.” Any person that is injured in a dog attack may be able to file a civil claim for damages.

Damages in a personal injury case can include money for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A dog bite injury attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your options are. It doesn’t cost anything to hire an attorney and they can make sure that you get all of the medical and financial support that you need to fully recover.
