San Ysidro MTS Trolley Accident: One Person Has Died After Being Hit By An Metropolitan Transit System Trolley Near The Intersection Of Beyer Boulevard and Smythe Avenue

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (March 6, 2019) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by an MTS trolley by the intersection of Beyer Boulevard and Smythe Avenue. 

Investigators are saying that the accident took place around 11:40 p.m. The intersection where the accident took place is not far from the trolley station. 

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene. Despite life-saving efforts, the pedestrian was later pronounced dead. 

There is an ongoing investigation into the circumstances that led up to the crash. 

Liability In Trolley Accidents

Like trains, trolley’s are forced in one direction by a set of train tracks. Trolley operators must exercise care in order to prevent accidents. If they see a person on the tracks they must sound their horn and apply the brakes. Even if a person decided to lay down on the tracks that does not mean a trolley operator can just run them over. Cities are responsible for removing dangerous conditions that may contribute a trolley accidents.
