SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (March 6, 2019) – A 64-year-old woman identified as Zhao Guan has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver near the intersection of California Street and 18th Avenue.
San Francisco authorities are saying that it was a dark and rainy night when the victim was hit. Sometime around 8:07 p.m. Zhao Guan was hit by a silver sedan that was going westbound on California.
The driver of the sedan did not stop and kept going after hitting the victim. Despite life-saving efforts Zhao Guan later died due to her injuries.
A search for the driver remains ongoing at this time.
Liability In Hit-And-Run Collisions
It is a felony to leave the scene of a car accident that causes bodily injury. According to the California Vehicle Code 20002, “The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting only in damage to any property, including vehicles, shall immediately stop the vehicle at the nearest location that will not impede traffic or otherwise jeopardize the safety of other motorists.” Whether you are at fault or not, you should always remain at the scene of an accident.
The family of a victim that dies in a hit-and-run collision will have the ability to seek justice through California’s Code of Civil Procedure 377.60. A wrongful death attorney can investigate your claim and take steps to hold negligent drivers accountable for their actions. There are statute of limitations associated with being able to pursue a claim, so it’s important to act quickly.
