Liability In Pedestrian Accidents
San Francisco can be a very dangerous place for pedestrians. The elderly have been particularly at risk for a number of years. In an attempt to curb accidents, city officials have sought to implement Vision Zero. Over time the goal is to have zero pedestrian deaths. City officials hope that this will be achieved by implementing existing safety laws, educating the public about safety and designing roads to be safer.
According to the California Vehicle Code 21950, “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.” The family of a victim that died in an accident is able to seek justice under California’s code of civil procedure 377.60.
