SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (January 12, 2019) – An 84-year-old identified as Lucy Morales was involved in the first fatal car accident in San Francisco in 2019, according to SF Weekly.
The victim was walking near Haight Street and Stanyan Street when the crash took place. It happened right next to a McDonald’s restaurant. This comes as city officials are working to push Vision Zero. Officials hope to eliminate traffic deaths and make San Francisco’s streets safer.
Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene of the accident shortly after 6:00 p.m. Lucy Morales was transported to the hospital in critical condition but later died as a result of her injuries.
Historically, seniors continue to make up a disproportionate number of the fatal accidents in San Francisco.
Liability In Pedestrian Accidents
Drivers have a responsibility to operate their vehicles in a reasonably prudent and safe manner. The vast majority of pedestrian accidents happen between 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Driver fatigue begins to play a role as workers make their way home. Poor lighting during this time can make it even more dangerous to be a pedestrian. If a driver is negligent and hits a pedestrian they may face civil liability.
The family of a victim that died can seek justice by filing a wrongful death claim. A pedestrian accident attorney can investigate your case and let you know if you have a claim that can be pursued. There are strict statute of limitations associated with being able to file a claim. It is therefore important to act quickly. An attorney can take steps to make sure that evidence is preserved and that your rights are protected.
