Bay Bridge Motorcycle Accident: CHP Officer Injured In Truck Accident While Riding Motorcycle On The Bay Bridge Near Treasure Island and Oakland

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (January 13, 2018) – A California Highway Patrol officer sustained moderate injuries after a big rig veered into his path on the Bay Bridge as he was riding his motorcycle.

The motorcycle accident took place on the Interstate Highway 80 on the Bay Bridge not far from Treasure Island around 7:30 a.m. The CHP officer had his flashing lights activated at the time of the accident.

He was escorting a disabled vehicle off of the Bay Bridge when a semi-truck turned directly into his far right lane and struck him. The CHP officer was able to scramble to the side of the Bay Bridge before he was hit again.

San Francisco paramedics rushed to the scene and transported the motorcycle officer to the hospital in order to receive treatment. There is an ongoing investigation into what may have caused the Oakland truck accident.

Liability In Truck Accidents

Nearly 5,000 people are killed every year in the United States in accidents involving large trucks. Tens of thousands more are seriously injured. There are two major reasons for this. First, like all people truck drivers are susceptible to fatigue. They have to drive for many hours straight – often on unfamiliar roads and in adverse weather conditions. Another major cause of truck accidents are unsafe lane changes. Trucks have incredibly large blind spots that can make an SUV disappear. This is why a large number of bicyclists and motorcyclists get hit.

When a truck driver is negligent and causes an accident, a victim will be able to file a bodily injury claim for damages. It’s very common for victims to underestimate the extent of their injuries and the costs associated with treatment. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the average cost for treatment of a truck accident with injuries is around $200,000. This can be a crushing burden for most individuals. A truck accident attorney can take steps to protect your rights and maximize your compensation.
