Accidents Caused By Debris In The Roadway
Car accidents caused by debris in the roadway are hardly a freak occurrence. Thousands of people are injured and hundreds of people have been killed in car collisions caused by loose objects in the road. Some of the most common objects are shredded tires. These aren’t always picked up after an accident. Sofas and refrigerators also end up on the roadway. In most scenarios, highway cleanup crew can pick up the objects and everything goes back to normal. But debris can become a lethal hazard at night when drivers are unable to see what’s in the road. Depending on a variety of factors, there could be multiple sources of negligence for an accident involving loose debris in the roadway.
Liability For Accidents Caused By Road Debris
To begin, drivers have a responsibility to secure their load. This can be difficult to do properly and is best handled by a professional. When a driver fails to do this, they could be held liable if an object falls off their car and causes an accident. If, for example, a company did an inadequate job of securing a load like a carpet they could be held liable. Moreover, a number of objects simply shouldn’t be attached to a car roof. Objects with a large surface area are inherently unstable due to the wind resistance that they will face as they are being transported. An experienced car accident attorney can evaluate the facts of your case and help you receive compensation if you’ve been injured by road debris.
