San Diego Truck Accident: Two People In A Toyota Avalon Were Injured When They Were Rear-Ended By A Semi-Truck On The Interstate 805 Freeway
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (April 3, 2019) – Two people in a white Toyota Avalon were injured after they were hit by a semi-truck on the Interstate 805 freeway not far from Governor Avenue.
California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place around 2:00 p.m. The tractor-trailer truck rear-ended the Toyota and caused it to flip on its roof on the right side of the freeway.
One person was seriously injured and another person sustained more moderate injuries. Paramedics rushed to the scene of the accident in order to help both of the victims.
An investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.
Liability In Truck Accidents
According to the FMCSA, “Of the approximately 475,000 police-reported crashes involving large trucks in 2016, there were 3,864 (0.8 percent) fatal crashes and 104,000 (22 percent) injury crashes.” Fatigue remains the number one factor associated with commercial truck accidents. There are federal regulations regarding how long truck drivers are supposed to work, but these are not always followed.
When a truck driver is negligent and causes an accident they or the company that they work for could potentially face civil liability. There is simply no excuse for a rear-end collision. Every driver is supposed to scan the road ahead of them and maintain a safe distance in order to avoid accidents. Even if the lead vehicle stops abruptly a good driver should be able to slow down in time to avoid collisions. Victims of truck accidents can be left with lasting and serious injuries including broken bones, spinal injuries, internal injuries and traumatic brain injuries.
The cost to treat these injuries can be overwhelming both on an emotional and financial level. According to Northwestern University, “The lifetime costs of a patient’s treatment for a traumatic brain injury are estimated to run from $85,000 to $3 million.” A truck accident attorney can investigate all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. Hiring an attorney is the smart thing to do. It doesn’t cost anything and they may be able to get you financial compensation for your injuries.
