Medical Board Of California Under Fire After Report That Large Numbers of Doctors In San Diego Are Abusing Patients
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (December 9, 2018) – In the past three years alone, at least 150 doctors in San Diego have been disciplined for behavior ranging for negligence all the way up to sexual abuse.
At least one doctor was disciplined for injecting himself with an opiod and then passing out in a bathroom. It remains unclear if San Diego county has a higher than average level of doctor misconduct than other parts of California.
Marian Hollingsworth, who is a public safety advocate, said “I think we’ve had a number of them which is alarming.” One doctor has plead guilty to a felony after having sexual contact with seven of his patients.
A full investigation into all of the allegations remains ongoing at this time.
Liability In Medical Malpractice Cases
Doctors are expected to provide care that is reasonably skillful. When a doctor fails to provide that level of care they may have committed malpractice. Patients put their trust in doctors to do no harm and exercise their best judgement. Far too often this faith is misplaced. If a doctor abuses a patient, the hospital or company that they work for could face civil liability for those actions.
