Liability In Inmate Deaths
Inmates have a right under the federal constitution to receive reasonably adequate health care. Far too often the health care needs of a jail or prison are outsource to private companies that are more concerned with making a profit than providing inmates with good care. If jail officials are deliberately indifferent to an inmate’s serious medical needs they may face civil liability if an inmate is injured or killed. The family of a victim may have the ability to file a wrongful death claim for damages.
