Brian Dalton San Diego: 67-Year-Old Victim Injured In Bike Accident After Right Crank Broke During Ride
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (January 5, 2018) – A 67-year-old man from Minnesota identified as Brian Dalton was seriously injured in a bicycle accident one day after Christmas when his right crank snapped in half mid-ride.
Brian Dalton said that he was riding through an intersection by 5th Street And Upas Street and began pedaling hard to make the light. Out of nowhere, his right crank broke and the resulting accident threw him 6 feet to the ground.
The victim sustained a head injury and broke several ribs after being thrown from the bike. One of his ribs punctured his lungs causing him to need an extended recovery.
Brian Dalton was visiting California in order to help his son start his own business. But now he remains at his son’s home while he continues to heal.
A Go Fund Me page was created in order to help the victim with his medical expenses.
Liability In Bicycle Accidents
The majority of bicycle accidents involve drivers that are distracted and hit cyclists. But every year a number of bicycle riders are injured when bicycles come apart and break during the middle of the ride. Stems can brake, cranks can break and the chain can become misaligned. Depending on the facts of any case, a victim of a bicycle accident may be able to pursue a product liability claim.
Companies are expected to produce products that are reasonably safe for consumers to use. If there is a design defect in either the design process or manufacturing process a company could be liable if that contributes to an accident an injures someone. It’s always a good idea to seek the legal guidance of an experienced bicycle accident attorney. Victims may be entitled to compensation for their injuries including lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering.
