Aaron Porter Died In Mission Beach Apartment Fire Accident Above Dryer’s Ice Cream and Kojack’s
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (October 21, 2018) A 36-year-old man identified as Aaron Porter was tragically killed in an apartment fire accident in Mission beach, according to Fox 5.
Mission Beach police are saying that the apartment fire broke out around 7:00 a.m. by Belmont Park at the same time many of the residents were sleeping. Firefighters rushed to the apartments and were able to put out the fire in around 30 minutes
Aaron Porter was critically injured in the blaze and was taken to the UC San Diego burn unit in order to receive treatment. Tragically, he died on Tuesday due to his injuries.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the blaze. However, a metal stairwell was energized from nearby electrical lines. This was preventing fire crews from putting ladders on the building to get to the roof.
It remains unclear if this was the cause of the fire that killed Aaron Porter. What investigators do know, however, is that the fire started on the roof.
Witnesses are saying that they could feel the heat from the fire from blocks away. An investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.

Common Causes of Fires In Residential Buildings
Apartment fires can leave victims with lasting and painful injuries. By understanding what’s most likely to cause a fire, you can be proactive about fire prevention. Here are the five major causes of fires in residential buildings.
Cooking accidents are one of the leading sources of fires. It can be easy to forget that something is on the stove. Often times, a pot of food will go unattended and nearby cloth can ignite. Installing smoke detectors can help alert residents of unattended items on the stove.
According to most insurance companies, arson includes both intentional fires set by criminals as well as accidental fires set by children. It’s always important to make sure that your kids are kept away from flammable materials and open flames.
Unattended candles and smoking cause nearly a third of all residential fires. Smoking is never a good idea, but it’s important to make sure that your cigarette is completely out when you’re done.
Heaters that come into contact with cloth are another major source of fires. In colder climates a number of people use small space heaters. These can be especially problematic. If a blanket is thrown over them, heat can build up to the point that a fire starts.
Electrical fires are far less common than other causes, but they still carry significant risk. Faulty wiring or downed power lines coming into contact with buildings are the leading causes of electrical fires.
It may be difficult to know where to begin after an apartment fire. Fires can destroy all of a person’s worldly possessions. Not only this, but a person can be horrifically injured or even die. Victims of apartment fires may be able to receive aid for their injuries by filing a personal injury claim. A premises liability attorney can evaluate the facts of your case and let you know what your rights are.
Liability In Apartment Fires
Thanks to continuing advancements in building safety, the number of building fires has declined greatly over time. Safety measures like smoke detectors, sprinklers and fire escapes have been important tools to help keep people safe.
However, fires still occur on a regular basis. Very often safety code violations are to blame. Building owners have a responsibility to keep their property in a reasonably safe environment. This includes both taking steps to both prevent fires and to adequately warn guests in the event of a fire. If a defect of a property contributed to a fire a landlord may face civil liability if anyone is injured or killed.
But landlords are not the only ones that may face liability in the event of a fire. For example, faulty wiring may have occurred due to the poor work of a third party maintenance technician. A number of fires at residential units are started by exogenous sources. For example, a downed electrical wire could come into contact with a building and start a fire. If this is the case, the company responsible for the power lines may face liability. Socal Edison is responsible for maintaining most of the electrical lines in San Diego County. They are currently facing a number of lawsuits after their power lines allegedly came into contact with trees and started deadly wildfires.
