Special Needs Child Honesty Injured In Car Accident With Alisal Union School District Van By The Intersection of Natividad Road and Rogge Road; Girls Mother Priscilla Ayala Created Go Fund Me

SALINAS, CALIFORNIA (June 2, 2019) – A Salinas child with special needs identified as Honesty sustained serious spinal injuries after being hit head-on by car that crossed dividing line at Natividad Road and Rogge Road.

Honesty was in a Alisal Union School District van at the time of the accident. Authorities initially told reporters that the driver that crossed the dividing line may have been under the influence, but no charges have been filed at this time.

All of the students on the van were on their way to La Joya Elementary School at the time of the crash. Honesty and another student were transported to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center after the accident.

Honesty sustained multiple spinal fractures and abdominal injuries following the crash and had to re-learn to walk. Her mother Priscilla Ayala set up a Go Fund Me page following the accident in order to help cover her daughter’s medical bills.

Priscilla Ayala told reporters that the driver that hit her daughter deserves jail time. It’s been an uphill battle for Honesty and Priscilla Ayala since they attack.

She has developed PTSD and now needs full time care. An investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Car Accidents

It is illegal to cross a dividing line on a road. According to California Vehicle Code 21460, “If double parallel solid yellow lines are in place, a person driving a vehicle shall not drive to the left of the lines, except as permitted in this section.” Drivers that cross a double yellow line may face civil or even criminal liability.

Unfortunately, many head-on accidents are caused by drunk drivers. According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), “In 2013, 28.7 million people admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol – that’s more than the population of Texas” Victims of car accidents are protected by a number of laws.

Liability for a car accident may extend beyond a negligent driver. For example a school district may be liable for a crash if their was a lack of adequate safety restrains. Victims of car accidents may be entitled to compensation for past and future medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your rights are.
