Liability In Hit And Run Accidents
It is a felony to flee the scene of an accident that results in bodily injury to another driver. According to California Vehicle Code 20001, “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident and shall fulfill the requirements of Sections 20003 and 20004.”
Victims of hit and run accidents can suffer from a wide variety of injuries including broken bones and spinal cord injuries. Even after a victim was fully healed physically, many of the long term affects of serious injury can be physiological. Many people who go through hit and run accidents may also suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Victims may experience ongoing anxiety and recurring thoughts of the accident.
Any person that is injured may have the ability to recover damages through a bodily injury claim. This can include money for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your rights are. It doesn’t cost anything to hire an attorney and they can immediately start working to get you the justice that you deserve.
